PFC3D 32-bit is a discrete element method (DEM) simulation tool for three-dimensional modeling of granular and jointed materials. It enables engineers and researchers to build assemblies of rigid particles, define contact laws and boundary conditions, and study emergent behaviors such as packing, flow, load transfer, fracture, and breakage under static or dynamic loading. The 32-bit edition targets legacy systems and smaller models, delivering core analysis and visualization capabilities on modest hardware.

Highlights:

  • 3D particle-based modeling with spheres and clumped particles
  • Customizable contact and bond models to represent stiffness, friction, cohesion, and breakable bonds
  • Flexible boundary conditions, including gravity, prescribed motions, and dynamic excitation
  • Measurement and monitoring of forces, displacements, stresses, coordination number, and other micro–macro responses
  • Scripting and automation for calibration, parameter sweeps, and repeatable workflows
  • Interactive visualization, time histories, and data export for post-processing
  • Applicable to geomechanics, mining, civil engineering, and materials research

Note: As a 32-bit application, it has tighter memory limits than 64-bit editions and is best suited to small to medium model sizes, potentially requiring an older Windows environment.

PFC3D 32-bit is developed by Itasca Consulting Group, Inc.. The most popular version of this product among our users is 4.0. The name of the program executable file is pfc3d_32.exe.
